Outlaws
Outlaws were a group of people that had a great impact on the American West, although they often were not respected. Outlaws began showing up in the West after the Civil War. Many had either fought in the war or were cultural products of the war. At the time, the West was a lawless frontier and this attracted outlaws and made crime easier. It was easy for outlaws because the West was still removed from the level of civilization present in the East. Out in the West, outlaws were mostly thieves, robbing banks and trains, but they were also murderers.
